I feel very happy about this. Last year I was a Google Summer of Code(GSOC) student. This year I was a GSOC mentor. I helped two students from my university(University of Moratuwa) to find a project for GSOC and I became a mentor for one. Both of them successfully completed their projects. As I remember we had 24 GSOC students from University of Moratuwa last year and most of them are from Computer Science and Engineering department and I think its same for this year also. This is a huge thing for us as Sri Lankans.

As far as I know Dr. Sanjiva is the person who first encouraged students from Computer Science and Engineering(CSE) department of University of Moratuwa to participate in GSOC. It was GSOC 2005 and 4 students from CSE participated in GSOC 2005. Those who participated in GSOC 2005 helped other students to participate in next GSOC. I learnt about GSOC from them and me and my friends who learnt from them follow the tradition by helping our juniors. Finally we became top country twice in GSOC.

Thank you all the GSOC mentors and people who helped Sri Lankan students in GSOC.

Here is the article about this in Softpedia.
